On Friday, A tree planted by Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1987 has produced its first crop of apples – just in time for the 10th anniversary of her death.
Diana visited Grantham in October 1987 to mark the tercentenary of the publication of Sir Isaac Newton's mathematical work Principia.
During the visit she planted the tree – a descendent of the one at Woolsthorpe Manor which, according to folklore, inspired Newton to develop his theory of gravity – in St Peter's Hill Green.
In 2003 vandals severely damaged the tree and it was condemned and thrown away by the council.
